Securing Employee Wellbeing: The first quarter of 2020 has been a worrying and stressful time for people all over the world. And, unfortunately, we must prepare for the possibility that this situation may continue a little longer. In this blog, I’ll share my tips about how to best keep employee wellbeing to a high standard despite concerns about the spread of COVID-19.

As leaders, it’s not only our role to bring wellness to the workplace, but also to keep it there. Amid this outbreak of COVID-19, it’s even more important to empower people to take responsibility for their own health and also be aware of their responsibility to protect each other. Firstly, make sure there is communication between human resources and employees about maintaining the highest levels of hygiene, what to do if someone begins to feel unwell, etc. Set out a clear policy for this so everyone is informed about how to act in every circumstance.

Secondly, it’s important to manage employee internal wellbeing programs. The UAS Be Well corporate wellness program facilitates regular health seminars for our employees to keep them up to date with the latest scientific and medical research and information, and to keep the importance of maintaining great health at the forefront of their minds. If you don’t run any of these programs, now is the time to begin. Corporate wellness is crucial to corporate success.

Lastly, employee internal and external activities – be they sports training, championships, etc.- must always be conducted in a safe and healthy environment. This is even more relevant at times like this, when people are more cautious about big gatherings in public places.

It’s in all our interests that things go on as normal, I would urge people not to panic and follow the advice of the medical experts, governments, and the WHO. It is a challenging time, but we will get through it together.
