BRICS Summit to close Rio Airport from July 6-7: Rio de Janeiro will host the BRICS Summit on Sunday, July 6 and Monday, July 7.
The 17th annual meeting will see leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and other member states descend on the city.
Santos Dumont Airport (SBRJ), the main airport for domestic flights in Rio, will be closed to all flights during the event.
Only aircraft carrying Heads of State, government officials, and their security teams will be able to access the airport.
During the summit period, flights can move to Galeão International Airport, which is about 20 kilometres from downtown Rio.
Travellers flying in or out of Rio during these days should expect delays and busier conditions at Galeão.
