Flight Operations to Hockenheim: German Grand Prix


The 2016 German Grand Prix takes place in Hockenheim from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31. The Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg motor racing circuit is located in the picturesque Rhine valley near the town of Hockenheim in Baden-Württemberg. It is situated on the Bertha Benz Memorial Route – a 194km touristic themed road trip. There are a few airport options, some ideal for larger jets, others for smaller ones. The following will help you decide the best airport for your needs.


For smaller jets:

Speyer Airport

  • Customs are available on request a minimum of two hours in advance
  • VFR only at this airport

Opening times: Monday-Friday 0700-2000lt, Saturday-Sunday (and public holidays) 0900-2000lt

Mannheim City Airport

  • 24-hour PPR
  • Customs are available on request a minimum of 30 minutes in advance

Note: PPR and special familiarization / declaration by the PIC or operational controller is required.

Available only for authorized aircraft (up to 10000kg, DO 328/110/120/130, Dash 8, ATR 42-500, Falcon 50/200/900 EX/DX, Challenger 300, Cessna 680)

Opening hours: Monday-Friday 0600-2100lt, Saturday-Sunday 0800-2000lt

Stuttgart Airport

Note: Stuttgart is an AoE. Customs services are available 24-hours.

Frankfurt Airport

Note: Slot allocation is required and fines can be imposed for non-compliance.

Overflight and landing permits are not required if operating under the standard airworthiness certificate.

Transport from Frankfurt Airport to Hockenheim:

  • Shuttle bus – 2 hours and 22 mins
  • Drive – Approximately 55 mins

Non-EU passengers

Some non-EU passport holders are allowed to enter and remain in the European Union for up to three months without a visa. It’s important to check whether your nationality is included in this category prior to your trip. If not, you will need to organize a visa prior to arrival in the EU.

Note: Passports or any passport replacing documents issued more than ten years prior to the date of travel will not be accepted.

When traveling between two countries of the European Union:

When traveling to or from non-EU countries:

If you are traveling from an EU country to a country outside the EU or vice versa, you must declare cash and cash equivalents of 10,000 Euros or more to the customs service in writing.

When arriving from a non-EU country, you must submit a written declaration at the first customs inspection point (the designated red exit for declarable goods).

When departing for a non-EU country, go to the responsible customs office or ask which customs counters you can submit your written declaration to. This must be done before you pass through the security checkpoint.


Alcohol (for passengers over 17 years of age):

  • 1 liter of spirits containing more than 22% of alcohol by volume
  • or 1 liter of ethyl alcohol containing 80% or more of alcohol by volume
  • or 2 liters of alcohol containing up to 22% volume
  • or a combination of the above plus 4 liters of non-sparkling wine and 16 liters of beer


  • 200 cigarettes
  • or 100 cigarillos
  • or 50 cigars
  • or 250 grams of loose tobacco
  • or a combination of the above

Importing other goods:

  • Up to a total value of 430 Euro is allowed
  • Travelers under the age of 15 may only import goods worth a total of 175 euros

There are no restrictions on foreign currencies if arriving from or traveling to another EU Member State.

Amounts exceeding EUR 10,000 or more or the equivalent in another currency must be declared if arriving directly from or traveling to a country outside the EU.


All baggage is cleared at the final destination in Germany.
