Debunking 3 Myths About Business Jet Travel

Most people have the wrong idea about private aviation. Of course, anyone involved in the industry understands its value and benefits, but there are many others that hold dated and misinformed views. So, today I’d like to debunk three long-standing and damaging myths about business jet travel.

Myth: It’s extremely expensive and wasteful

Fact: It’s excellent value for money

There’s a common perception that business jets are overly expensive and a waste of money, that they are only for the “elite”, but this couldn’t be further from the truth! While some private aviation is about luxury and opulence, the vast majority is not. The reality is, traveling by business jet affords good value for money because of the flexibility and timesaving benefits it brings its users. For example, transporting six executives on a small jet will get them to their destination quicker, allow them to work together on route, and save huge amounts of time navigating airports and waiting for flights. Because of this, there are big productivity gains.

Myth: It doesn’t contribute to the economy

Fact: It creates huge numbers of jobs

Some people have the idea that private aviation is a tiny, niche industry – a stand-alone way to travel that makes minor contributions to the economy. This is totally false! Business jet travel creates thousands of highly skilled jobs and supports so many other industries such as hospitality, ground transportation, ground handling, etc. Private aviation also opens destinations usually bypassed by commercial flight to investment. The connectivity it provides is tremendously beneficial for the global economy.

Myth: It doesn’t care about the environment

Fact: It’s made huge commitments to be carbon neutral

Business jets are often vilified for wantonly creating C02 emissions and negatively impacting the environment. But the fact is, the private aviation community (represented by NBAA, IBAC, and other groups) is unified and committed to totally eradicating its carbon emissions by 2050. The industry is serious about sustainability.
