World Cup 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest special events we’ve ever seen from an aviation standpoint. The tournament will run from June 11 through July 19 and will be hosted across three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and is set to be one of the most major aviation movements the region has ever seen.
With 48 teams, 104 matches, and games spread across 16 cities, operators should expect a major spike in business aviation traffic throughout North America. Airports in host cities will be impacted, very significantly in some cases. This is not an event to plan last-minute, so operators are urged to begin their planning as soon as possible.
Key Tournament Dates
- Opening match: June 11, 2026. Mexico City
- Group stage: June 11–27
- Knockout rounds: June 28–July 15
- Final: July 19, 2026. New York / New Jersey
From an Ops perspective, the busiest periods will be:
- The opening week
- The start of knockout rounds
- Semifinals and final week
During these windows, expect parking shortages, airport slot programs, higher fees, and longer lead times for permits and services.

Country-by-Country Ops Notes
Canada
Toronto
- Primary airport is CYYZ
- GA parking will be limited, especially overnight
- CBSA clearance delays are likely during peak days
- Charter operators will need the appropriate Canadian operating authority in place
Vancouver
- CYVR will see heavy demand
- Parking will be tight and alternates may be required
- Weather and terrain can play a factor, so build in extra buffer time
Early coordination with handlers in both cities will be important.
Mexico
Mexico City
- MMMX will be extremely congested
- Slot restrictions and parking limitations are expected
- Toluca (MMTJ) will likely be the better option for many operators
Guadalajara & Monterrey
- Generally business-aviation friendly, but demand will be high
- Permit lead times may increase around match days
- Fuel and parking should be secured as early as possible
Operators are urged to secure Mexican permits early.
United States
The U.S. is hosting most matches, so overall congestion will be widespread.
Los Angeles / San Francisco / Seattle
- Expect limited parking and potential drop-and-go scenarios
- Alternates will be key
Dallas and Atlanta
- Both cities are hosting semifinals
- Expect heavy traffic, ATC flow restrictions, and possible slot programs
Miami
- Hosting the third-place match
- Parking will be very limited close to match days
New York / New Jersey (the WC final)
- Airports like TEB, EWR, JFK will be under maximum pressure
- Remote parking and repositioning should be expected
Kansas City, Boston, Philadelphia
- Likely more manageable, but still affected by event traffic
General Advice for International Operators
A few things we strongly recommend keeping in mind:
- Start planning early, do not leave plans to the final weeks
- Be prepared to be flexible as repositioning will be common
- Expect higher costs as special event fees will apply
- Confirm permits and cabotage rules well in advance
- Lock in fuel early to avoid supply issues
- Crew hotels near stadiums will sell out quickly
Even operators familiar with North America should expect delays and congestion during this period.
