Enhanced US Preclearance at Shannon Airport: Business jet passengers traveling to the United States via Shannon will soon benefit from enhanced US Preclearance services at the Irish airport.
US Preclearance facilitates passengers on US-bound flights to fully preclear all US immigration and customs controls before leaving Ireland.
Essentially, preclearance allows business jet operators to fly directly from Shannon to over 300 US airports, rather having to go to a designated clearance airport in the US first, making the time- and cost-saving benefits huge.
Shannon Airport was the first airport in the world to offer full US preclearance for Business Aviation and is still the only airport in either Europe or the Middle East with this unique service.
In August 2009 Shannon became the first airport in Europe to have full US Preclearance and operated a US Immigration Pre-inspection facility since 1986.
Currently, US Preclearance at Shannon operates from 9am to 5pm daily, but the upcoming enhancement will extend these hours and offer an out-of-hours service.
The changes are expected to come into effect in the coming months.
