Are you aware of the restrictions at Shanghai’s major airports this March and April?

The Asian Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (ABACE) takes place at Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (IATA: SHA, ICAO: ZSSS) from April 12 to 14, 2016. Attracting key industry decision makers among its many attendees, ABACE is one of the largest and most decisive events in the aviation calendar. Here’s some critical operational information for anyone travelling to Shanghai this April.

Operational Restrictions

Applying to private/non-scheduled flights at Shanghai airports

General restrictions for ZSSS: Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport

  • From/to the East or Northeast direction: No take-off or landing is allowed with the exception of flights attending ABACE 2016
    From/to all directions: 1600-2159UTC there is no take-off or landing allowed
  • One aircraft cannot occupy more than two inclusive slots during the period 0000-1359UTC on the same day

General restrictions for ZSPD: Shanghai Pudong international Airport

  • One aircraft cannot occupy more than two inclusive slots during the period 0000-1359UTC on the same day

Parking Restrictions

For ZSSS (from 23 March to 21 April):

Business jets with no departure schedule should be repositioned to the other airport no later than April 9.

Non-exhibit business jets are prohibited to land at ZSSS during below time-frame:

  • From April 9 to April 11
  • From April 14 to April 16

Non-exhibit business jets are only allowed to park for 24 hours during the following time-frame:

  • From March 23 to April 8
  • From April 12 to April 13
  • From March 17 to April 21

For ZSPD (from March 23 to April 22):

From March 23 0000L to April 9 0000L, business jets cannot park for more than 48 hours

From April 9 0000L to April 22 0000L, business jets cannot parl for over 42 hours.

From March 23 0000L to April 22 0000L, business jets which have no departure schedule  should be repositioned to the other airport.

Alternative Airports 

Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (IATA: HGH, ICAO: ZSHC) is approximately a one and a half hour drive from Shanghai.

Nanjing Lukou International Airport (IATA: NKG, ICAO: ZSNJ) is approximately a two hour drive from Shanghai.

Immigration

Shanghai applies a policy of 144-hour transit (Country A – China – Country B) stay visa free of charge. However, it is only available for passengers and not to crew members. Transit passengers successfully applying for 144-hour visa exemption transits are allowed to stay within the restricted administration precincts including Shanghai municipality, Jiangsu Province, and Zhejiang Province for any amount of time under 144 hours.

The policy is applicable to the passengers who hold the following passports:

  • 23 European countries with Schengen Visa Agreement: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, German, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
  • 13 other European countries: Russia, Britain, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Albania.
  • 6 American countries: United States of America, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile.
  • 2 Oceanian countries: Australia and New Zealand.
  • 6 Asian countries: Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.

Currency

The currency in China is CNY/RMB.

Transportation

Taxis and bus transportation are widely available at both airports.
