The leaders of Niger’s military coup have closed the country’s airspace to avoid any military intervention from neighboring states. The coup began on July 26 with the attempted overthrow of Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum. Flights already in the air when the airspace closure was declared were either rerouted or diverted.

Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority recently extended the closure due to ongoing armed conflict and civil unrest between the army and a paramilitary group. Only humanitarian and evacuation flights are permitted but require prior permission (PPR).
